Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

My girlfriends mother has been controlling her bills for years. Now that she wants to take over for herself her mother is threatening to take her to court as an unfit mother using evidence that she (mother) has been paying the rent. Her mother has been paying the bills with the income from my Girlfriends job that has been deposited in a joint bank account with her mother. What can she do to help defend herself?

It's really, really tough to take kids away from someone, so she probably shouldn't worry. Still, it would be a good idea to speak with a family law attorney.

The first thing she should do is start paying her own bills. This may mean taking her mother off all her accounts, if the mother is on them.
