Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

granddaughter in foster care

My son has been in jail since May 07. He has a baby with a woman that he is not married to. He is named on the birth certificate. I called the mother to ask if I could visit the baby and she told me that the baby has been put in foster care. She would give me no other info. Do I have any chance of obtaining (at least temporary) custody of her? How do I find her in the foster care system, since Mom won't give me any info? Please help this grandma.

Generally the State of Florida will look to relatives of a child to provide care if a parent cannot. You should speak with the local office of the Department of Children and Family Services in your county and ask about the child. Good luck.
