Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

i am a grandparent of a 19 mo. old. the mother and child reside with myself and my husband. the mother was legally married at time of conception, and the state of Alabama would not allow fathers name to be on birth certificate.we were thinking of getting custody of the child. The mother is unemployed and lacks interest. The father comes and goes, but he is mentally unstable and is on medication. He receives SSI. We do not know what to do. Perhaps even guardianship? Our income is about $1,700 per month. I am not employed.

yes you can file for temp custody by a grandparent (in family court) or guardianship (in probate court). I recommend family court. DO NOT CALL DCF they are not your friend.
