grandparents visitation rights
my son and his ex wife are both in the military in S.C., but are Florida residents. I live in Wi. They recently divorced and have a 2 1/2 yr old. My son only asked for 2 weeks during the summer (thinking he could gethis son whenever) but she keeps playing games using their son. Who can I contact to see about getting visitation for a month at summer and Xmas or Thanksgiving. She has said that just because my son comes home to visit doesn't mean that he can take his son with him. Mainly because it is not his time to have him. My son wants to come home for 3 weeks in the summer and she may not let him because the divorce papers say he can have him for only 2 weeks.I feel if I can get my own visitation that she won't be able to play games. My son should be entitled to being his son home whenever he visits and for whatever length of time he stays. My son says his commanding officer says he can get in trouble for taking him any longer than his papers say. What are my chances and who do I contact for something like this?

Generally, granparents do not have visitation rights. However, 2 weeks a year seems like a very small amount of time for a child to spend with his father (remember that to the courts, it's about the child). Your son should petition for modification and ask for a lot more time than 2 weeks per year (assuming there was a reason for which he didn't do that the first time and circumstances have now changed).
