Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Hello,

I have been divorced since Jan. 2002. I was awarded $1500.00 per month in permanent alimony. My ex has been sending me the money directly, however since Jan. 2009 he has only been sending me $1000.00 due to his job loss. He bought into a business and is awaiting it taking off. Since his not paying me the full amount I have gone into financial debt due to my loss of job(s) and starting a new career in the healthcare field. My question is this: He has quite a few assets and living comfortably (he remarried in 2007). What can I do to get my back pay and get him back on track. FYI: when we divorced I was making a good salary and have since had it cut in half since Feb. 2003. Any suggestions???

The award of alimony entitles you to receive the payments until the court order (final dissolution of marriage, with a marital settlement agreement) is amended. Therefore, you are advised to discuss the situation with your ex; if that discussion is futile, contact a lawyer to learn of legal options, procedures, costs. Base on your facts, it is not a complex situation but will require effort if your ex will not cooperate.
