Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
My husband got angry at our 6-year-old child last wk and bit him. He has no prior record for any type of crime at all. He left a mark. He spent the weekend in jail. His bond was set at $3000. I paid it, then was told that he had to go before the judge again because they wanted to change the charges. The charges remained the same, but they increased the bond to $7000. The public defender got the bond back down, this time to $2000. He is allowed no contact with our children right now. He is also required to check in once a week until his court hearing(SOR?). His job has informed him that because the charge (child cruelty) is a felony, if convicted he will lose his job. His job provides us with our health insurance. Also, I am going to divorce him so we would need his job to provide us child support as well. What do you think the outcome will be?

If its his first offense, his attorney should be able to reduce it to a misdemeanor.
I'm never happy to hear about divorce, but I'm glad you're dumping this sicko.
If he has no priors, he'll probably get probabtion with violence counseling. A "withhold of adjudication" (you can ask the prosecutor what that means) may save his job, especially if it means health insurance for your son. When you go through the divorce, be sure to ask that his visitation be supervised.
If he loses his job, maybe "True Blood" or "Twilight" are looking for extras. (Kidding, just trying to make light of an otherwise sad situation. Hope your son is okay.)
