Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
My former husband of 29 years, whom I cut cheating twice with two diferent women, has filed with the Orange county court for a simple divorce . I am on disability due to tow serious illnesses. Is any alimony due to me? How I can hold him accountable for it? Because of citizenship from Canada , he told our only child he will be going back to Canada for good once the divorce is granted. Also he owes more than $12,000.00 in taxes between Federal and NY State.. He is going to leave me with this debt. We have no longer have any financial interest in common: The house we lived in for 20 years was foreclosed last year. He is self employed. I do not have any tract of where he is keeping his money. He is 62 and getting close to retirement age for Canada, can IRS garnish his pension from Canada?

The divorce should be handled in the last County where the marriage was last intact. If that was other than Orange County, before you file any response whatsoever, you will need to demand the case be dismissed, or for it to be transferred to the proper County.
As you certainly have a long-term marriage, you might be entitled to permanent alimony. However, you have to file a pleading asking for it. Whether it will be rewarded also depends upon his financial resources,
If you opt to proceed without the assistance of counsel, be aware that you will not be entitled to a do over if things go badly.
