Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
My husband's ex decided she wanted to get braces for their daughter a few months ago, after we had asked her to wait because our insurance would cover it in 2013. We told her that if she went ahead and got them, we would not pay for any of it because they aren't medically necessary and we felt she was just being impatient. My husband went as far as to call the orthodontist and tell him that he did not authorize the braces and would not be responsible for any part of the bill.
She got the child braces a couple of months ago, and now she's telling us we have to pay 80% of what her insurance didn't cover and that if we don't a judge will force us to. Is she allowed to just make decisions that cost us a lot of money and expect us to just pay it when it's not a necessary expense?

The answer may depend on the divorce decree and any support agreement that was signed.
Mr. Slater is correct. However, have your evidence documented as to your conversations with the orthodontist (you may have to subpoena that person to testify) and any text messages with the ex.
