Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

need some help

iam 17 years old and need some help.my father passed away this year.i need to know if they were legally married.so im gunn give u sum info to see if yall can help.my step mother was married to richard casiano.in new york.my father was married to my biological mother.my father and step mother left there spouses and moved to florida with me.my step mother still a married women,in1997 took a mortage out on the house.in 1998 still a married women statisfyed the mortage.in 1999 my father filed for a divorce in broward county on my biological mother.divorce was granted.the records were public so it was easy to find.but the problem is i need to know if my step mother was divorced before married my father.they got married in april 22 of 2000.but there is no record of a filed divorce for my step mother on her first husband.in broward county.i have records showing me that she was still married to richard casiano up 2 august of 1998,but there is no record of divorce.wouldnt she have to file for it in broward county the divorce?since there is documents stated she was still married up to 1998!is there anyway of me findind out if she ever filed for it in new york?

Check with the Depts of Vital Statistics in all the states that you think the divorce might have occurred. Or just ask her.
