Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
Can I get an increase in alimony when child support ends
My ex was ordered to pay alimony, but the judge determined that he couldn't pay the full amount I needed so the judge reduced the amount of alimony he pays per month. When our child turns 18 and child support ends, can I go after him for the difference between the amount I needed and the amount he can pay? It would seem that then he could afford to pay me more in alimony.

You can always seek modifcation when circumstances change.

Yes, you can file a petition for modification based on the change in circumstances. Since there is a court order, he won't be responsible for the amount the judge decreased, but if the judge finds that he is now able to pay and that YOU still have a need for the alimony (alimony is rarely permanent, by the way, you will need to speak to an attorney about the liklihood of your prevailing), your ex will be responsibe for the higher alimony going forward.
