Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
who's jurisdiction am i?
i was a foster child for the
state of florida for many
years in that time period i
lived with a women (not a
foster mother) that was
going to adopt me, but she
got deathly sick and i had to
go back to the system. well i
moved up to tennessee
about 5 years ago to live with
my cousins, in that florida
never handed my case to
tennessee so i woild have to
call florida everytime i
needed something. about 1
year ago florida closed my
case (wasn't adopted). now
there is a problem with me
living up here and i would
like to go back to florida, to
sharon the women who had
me before. The state of
florida said there was no
need in me having to go
there DHS for this custody
change just call the court
and go with what they have
to say. so here is the
question: whos jurisdiction
do i go by florida or
tennessee's.

Re: who's jurisdiction am i?
It depends on whether Florida "retained jurisdiction" when they closed the case. The final order should have that information: whether the state retained or relinquished jurisdiction. The county clerk's office and the Department of Children and Families would have that information and a copy of the order.
