Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Next of kin

How do you name someone that is not blood related as your next of kin? My partner & I have been together for 17 yrs. but are not legally married. If he gets hurt, we want me to be able to be with him and discuss his condition with the hospital.

Re: Next of kin

He needs to execute a durable power of attorney giving you the authority to make health (or any kind of) decisions for him. He can also name you in a living will as the final decision maker.

POA's can lead to problems. I strongly suggest consulting with an attorney so he and you know what to look out for.

That's a problem, since you are not his next of kin. He needs a living will and other documents. You should contact an attorney in your area who practices family law.
