Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

We want to leagally adopt a grandchild who is 6 years old. Her mother is the only person on her birth certificate. Do we have to find out who the childs father is or can the mother just sign all the documents?

If you don't want the adoption to be a mess later, I suggest you find out who the father is and have him consent. As you know, Florida is notorious for returning the child to the parent.
