Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
Need help with lease and annulment
I have separated from my husband and am living in a different house but my name is still on the lease at the apartment that he is living in. How can I get my name off the lease so I am not responsible for him not paying the rent or being late on payments. Also, I found out after we married that the individual that married us got his reverend license off the internet. He never attended classes or anything, just put his name on the website and printed out a certificate. Is that legally binding? Is my marriage valid at all?

Regarding your lease, there is nothing any judge can do to exonerate you from the lease. Only the lessor can agree to remove your name,,and he'll probably want you to pay him something to do it. The same concept applies to any other obligation that is joint. So far as the cyberspace minister is concerned, check out Fla Statutes 741.07

Your marriage is valid, even if the reverend was somewhat bogus, if the license was properly obtained and recorded, and you had no reason to know that the reverend may have misrepresented his credentials. REgarding the lease, you are advised to notify the landlord re your status, that your husband is responsible for the entire rent. The landlord still may pursue you for the lease payments. If you file for divorce, the lease obligation should be allocated to your husband.
