Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Is it legal for an attorney to continue to charge you after you have asked them to close a case? August 5, 2010 I sent letter requesting case be closed for Guardianship of Minors. Attorney is charging an additional $764.44 for work they did in September 2010 after they received the letter stating we no longer needed their services. What can be done?

Simply because you wish the case to be closed at the moment doesn't mean it will automatically close without having to take steps to lead to same. You should review the final bill to make sure these are not "new activities" that are unrelated to closing out the file.

If by following your instructions, they incurred some expenses, then you will need to pay.
