Is is legal for my attorney to be represented in a legal matter by my opposing attorney?

Yes, it is legal, at least as long as you are not also an interested party in the matter for which your lawyer is being represented. Essentially this is because, absent some such interest, there is no basis for you to assert that the mere fact that he is represented as a client in that matter by the opposing counsel in your case creates a conflict of interest. You may, however, still discharge him as your counsel if you are uncomfortable with hie relationship with your opposing counsel, regardless of the absence of any prohibited conflict of interest. Likewise, he remains obligated to you to maintain the confidentiality of all communications between you protected by the attorney client privilege, and remains forever barred from disclosing any such information to the opposing counsel even if you elected to discharge him.
