Legal Name Change

My daughter was born 7/23/07 and I want to changer her last name from her fathers to mine. How can I do this? WIll this screw up child support in any way? ( I have not yet filed for child support )

Once the birth certificate has been applied for, you will have to file a petition for change of name. A court will probably not allow you to do this, however, unless you have very valid reasons. The child belongs to both the father and mother and not the mother alone. If the father objects, your chances may be slim.

Re: Legal Name Change

You will have to give the court a reason why it is good for the child to change the name. The consent of the father would help significantly, and child support might or might not be affected.
