Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

I had lent some money to my husband's stepfather some money by check. At that moment, he was in need of that money and he promised to pay back. 3 years now and he hasn't paid back any money nor he remembers the promise he had made with me and my husband. Can I still go to small claims court to get the money back?
