Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
I live in Florida, can I file for an alimony or maintenance divorce without an lawyer? Is there some stipulation or law stating you must be represented in court in the case of alimony or maintenance by a lawyer? If you can file on your own, do you do this in the clerk of courts office? If not, where then. What must you prove to be able to win alimony or maintenance in a divorce? Indigency? What else, if anything?

Yes you can file this on your own. Research the law and find your answers.
You do not need an attorney to file for divorce in the State of Florida. In fact, you can generally find all of the documentation you need on the appropriate court's website (determined by your residence) and file "Pro-Se" (self represented).
Please note that the forms are stock forms and do not come with any legal representation/advice. If you are comfortable completing the forms yourself but would like to have an attorney review the documents prior to submitting them or would like to discuss your options prior to moving forward, please visit my firms website (www.legaljourney.com) and determine if we can be of assistance to you.
There is no legal requirement within Florida that you have to retain counsel prior to filing for a divorce. You can find the legal forms at www. flcourts.org under the family law forms tab. These forms come with some instructions and tell you which ones you need to file in support of your petition. Hopefully this will put on the right track. Good luck and if you have questions please contact my office if you feel we could be of assistance to you.
