Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
My ex and I lived together for 17 years, had 2 children together, got married in 1994, had a wedding ceremony with notary public, mailed in the marriage license , got my name changed with that license, filed taxes as married, lived as married as we thought. We separated and found out we were never legally married, court had never received and/or filed the marriage, therefore no divorce was needed. I simply changed my name back to my maiden name after having to put an add in paper.
What legal rights do I have to any of the property accumulated from our 17 years together,?
$5,000 Wedding ring, which I paid for, vehicle, motorcycle, everything in household from linens to furniture. I was the moneymaker, he had low paying jobs and even for 4 years tried to start a business that brought in no income(which is no longer), just my income was used to purchase things for the business as well as household items etc.

The parties intent should control. You should be entitled to at least a 50/50 split.
