A common law marriage is where two people live together as husband and wife, tell everyone that they are married, act as though they are married, etc. even though they never got a license and never had a wedding. In some states, common law marriages are allowed. Florida isn't one of those states, and I'm almost certain Maryland isn't either, but you'd have to check with a Maryland lawyer on that. Bottom line, unless I'm wrong about Maryland law (very possible, since I'm a Florida lawyer), you aren't married.
