Re: How long does it take

Once the Petition has been served on the Respondent (your spouse), you must wait 20 days before setting a Final Hearing. The Court may require counselling for you, your spouse and the children and/or mediation. A parenting class is required in South Florida. After completion of all court requirements, you may schedule the Final Hearing providing 20 days have elapsed since the service of the Petition if no Answer has been filed by your spouse. If an Answer has been filed, all issues must be resolved by a property settlement agreement or the matter will be heard by the Court as a contested dissolution.

You need to call the Clerk of the Court to find out if an Answer was filed. If not, you can schedule the matter on an uncontested calendar. If an Answer was filed, ask the Clerk for the proper method to scheduled a contested hearing.
