Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Can I lose custody if I don't get rid of a dog

My daughter has moved home to attend college and brought her pit/terrier mix dog/puppy with her. My husband says if I don't make her get rid of the dog (who has not been a problem) he is ''within his rights'' to leave, and take my 4 year old son away from me. Can he do this?

You haven't provided enough information to answer this question. However, there is certainly an argument to be made that the pit-bull puppy is an inherently dangerous animal and that it is not safe for a 4-yr-old to be exposed to one, no matter what safety precautions are attempted. Look, I love animals (have 2 dogs and 2 cats myself) but the best advice i can give you is that it's not worth the potential legal trouble - or physical danger. Unfortunately, I would probably suggest that your daughter find a nice home for the pit-bull and perhaps get a puppy with a more gentle reputation if she wants to live with you and not jeopardize the custody or safety of your 4-yr-old.
