Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Im in a marriage that is two months away from becoming 7 years but im going to get divorced. My wife left the house with all of our belongings before the divorce. How would alimony work in this case?

You definitely should have the divorce petition filed before the seven years run. If you are going to retain an attorney, you probably should do so at least 2 weeks beforehand.

With the marriage being less than 7 years, any alimony claim would probably be pretty nominal, and would likely be of the Bridge-the-gap nature. Bridge-the-gap alimony provides support to allow a party to transition from marriage to single life, helping with short-term financial needs. This form of alimony cannot exceed 2 years. Bridge the Gap Alimony cannot be modified after it is awarded. In other words the court cannot increase the amount, nor can they lengthen the period to be paid.

If you opt to proceed without the assistance of counsel, be aware that you will not be entitled to a do over if things go badly.

An internet inquiry is no substitution for an in-office consultation with an attorney.
