Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
marriage
I'm asking a question for a friend. Due to his work schedule he is unable to contact a Lawyer about this matter.
He married a worman in Santodoningo about one year ago. The marriage was in Santodoningo. The marriage license was issued in Santodomingo. She still lives in Santodomingo and he lives in Port St. Lucie Florida which has been the case since the marriage. She has never been to the US. The marriage is in troble and both want out. What do they do? Is this marriage reconized in the US and does he have to file for a divorce?
He has become involved with another woman who is living in Ohio. If they take it to the next level can they get married without a divorce from the woman in Santodomingo?
He has been told that the marriage is not a legal marriage in the US. This was told to him by the IRS when he filed his taxes this past year. The IRS told him he could not put his wife on his taxes due to this fact.
He has been told by Immigration the marriage is not valued in the US.

Re: marriage
His marriage in Santo Domingo is valid if it was performed validly according to their laws. His best bet is to get divorce here. It is better to divorce than not to and enter into another bigamous marriage. Contact our offices for an in person or telephonic consultation so that we may better assist you, Betty Blanco, Esquire
