Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

I have been married to my son's father for 8 months but we have been together 9 years. Our son is only 20 months old. We live in the virgin islands. And I'm thinking about getting separated from my husband. He told me that I can't leave this island with our child to go back to Florida with my family. Do I have to get permission from my son's father to take my son to another state. Please help...
