A mediator is a person who attempts to work out a resolution with the parties that they both can and will agree upon. This is probably to your husband's advantage inasmuch as you said he was unrepresented at the hearing. An attorney does not give a person any advantage with a mediator. A layperson has just the same opportunity to reach a resolution as one who is represented by counsel. If your husband and his ex cannot agree, an impasse will be reached and the matter will go back to court for a resoltion by the judge.
