Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Medical Insurance for Children

My exgirlfriend moved out of our house and got state aid, such as food stamps, because he was out of work. The mother and I each have the kids half time (joint custody). The state of florida dept of revenue filed suit against me for child support because I am employeed. Since we each have joint custody, the judge ruled that I do not have to pay child support, but I must pay for their medical insurance. So I applied for Florida KidCare and was accepted ($20/mo medical insurance for both kids) since through my employeer it is an extra $70/week to add both kids. At my second hearing today, the court ordered me to get insurance through my employeer because if I had to pay child support, it would be $311/month and if I choose to pursue Florida KidCare and pay $20/month, I would liable to pay the mother the difference (about $280/month). I am confused about the situation and want to know if there is anything I could do legally. I don't understand why I should have to pay all the insurance if we have joint custody and we pay half of everything else, while she works under the table and makes more money than me. I just wanted to know my options.

Re: Medical Insurance for Children

Talking about it won't help. You'll need to get a lawyer to get her to pay her half. However, it may not lower your payments enough to be worthwhile.
