Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
I met my boyfriend when i was 1 month pregnant he took full responsability over my son. He signed the birth certificate and other legal documents,4 years later I was sued by the biological father and courts made me get a dna. which proved that he was the father. He sued me to be on the birth certificate and to change my sons last name. I hired an attorney and responded, We told him that if he wanted all that, that it was okay with me but we would go 2 years back from child support payments plus my attorneys fees,We went to court but when we got there he had already signed an affidavit widrawing his petition with prejudice or something like that.(I thought he had given up his parental rights according to what I undestood from my attorney) The case was dismissed by the judge and basically said that there was nothing else to do here. Now my attorney contacted my requesting another $3,000.00 to do the step parent adoption process with my husband(but his already on the birth certificate) I asked my attorney if this was necessary and he said yes because if this isn't done "the biological" father could return at any time back into my sons life to take responsability. I honestly don't know what to do I think he just wants me to keep paying him more money but I've already paid more than $6,000 and can't afford to go on with this waste of money and time. I went online and it says that I'm able to do it myself for less than $500.00. Please help! I don't know what to do. I'm 8 months pregnant and cant afford this any longer.

you are not being forced to hire this attorney and if you think you can do this by yourself -- go for it.
