Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Missed phone court appointed phone call

I missed a court appointed phone call to try to settle my childs custody case. I missed the call because the court sent the information to the lawyer I once used (I now represent myself). What can I do to fix this situation? My daughter can't be sent back to her mother. Also, my daughter has lived with me in FL for 6 months now (her mother is in WA) is there a way to get the custody hearings moved to FL?

Re: Missed phone court appointed phone call

The court-appointed phone was in Washington state, right? It is generally your responsibility to notify the clerk/court of any changes in your representation. If you represent yourself and you had submitted that change the call may have gone through. That, of course, depends on whether or not you were permitted to appear by phone. Lots of judges don't allow appearances by phone.

You better get in touch with the court and explain what happened and hope the court will re-set the hearing and allow you to appear by phone. Otherwise book a flight.
