Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Modified Alimony

I'm petitioning the court for a reduction of child support because my oldest is now 18 and done with school, which leaves me with only a 12 year old to pay support for. I also have been paying my ex permanent alimony and the threat before me is that she will get more alimony now as a result of a decrease in Child Support. There is no ''non-modifiable'' clause in the original decree. Will the amount of alimony go up each time the child support is reduced and what can I do to protect against this?

Re: Modified Alimony

Based on the information provided, there is no reason to fear an automatic increase or any increase in alimony merely because child support is reduced because a child attains adulthood. Advice: discuss the issue with a family law attorney who can review the reevant documents.
