Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

My mother was baker acted this week for an unsuccessful suicide attempt. I am 28 years old and have been on my own since 15. I have a 16 year old sister who still lives with my mom. She has a step-dad who can not afford to raise her or the available living situation. He is willing to help me fight for my sister's guardianship until she graduates high school. I live in a house large enough to accomodate having my sister, an extra car, and spare money to be able to raise her through these next two crucial years. My mother is not providing a safe environment for her;she has her drug addict boyfriend living in the house and sometimes does not come home for days at a time leaving my sister alone. I want to protect her from the life my mother has her living in. I was able to take care of mysellf but I don't want the same for my sister. Can you please tell me what steps I must take to gain guardianship.

First, do the responsible thing by realizing you can't do this on your own. Get a lawyer to help you. Don't risk your sister's future by trying this own your own. If you can't afford a lawyer, then you can't afford to help your sister.
