Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Mother and Father got joint custody in Mississippi but both parents now reside in Lee County, Florida. Mom is a junkie and Dad is a registered sex offender. Paternal grandparents and extended family in Lee County are stable. What must be done for grandparents to get custody of 9 year-old emotionally abused boy?

There is a lawsuit which allows family members (especially grandparents) to take custody of abused or neglected children. Normally, children have to live in Florida for six months for Florida courts to have jurisdiction, but there is an exception where abuse or neglect is occurring.

This isn't a lawsuit you want to do on your own, especially where abuse of a child is occurring. Contact a family law attorney right away. That lawyer may also tell you whether you are under an obligation to report the abuse.
