Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

My mother and father purchased this home 20 years ago, he has since passed. She began dating an abusive alcoholic 10 years ago and he moved in, they were married 4 years ago. Since the month he moved in he started paying her mortgage payments (room and board), they were splitting the bills. He is contesting her divorce asking for $33,000, all mtg payments made on the home since he moved in. Is she legally required to pay this amount? She offered to pay him for upgrades and repairs, but he is not happy with that figure. What can be done?

I think your mother can argue that he was assisting with the bills as he was living with her in the residence. If he paid for improvements on the home, then he can request special equity in the house for the increased value of the home as a result of monies he put into improvement.
