Mother Offered to Let Me Out of Financial Responsibility

I am nor ever was married to the mother. When she first told me she was pregnant I told her that we should not have the child. She currently had 2 that she could barely take care of and I had one. She opted to have the child against my better judgment. She told me that I did not have to be involved in his life and that she would never bother me for support since she made the choice to keep the child. Well 7 years later she is taking me to court for support. I talked to her after she filed and she agreed that she should not come back at me for support. I had to take the test as a part of the suit. It came back positive 99.46%. When I talked to her I told her that if it came back positive that I would get involved in the child's life and take him for visitations as part of the support but that I could not do it financially. My questions are that I am now receiving papers from an attorney in Tampa. Is this part of the court system or has she hired an attorney? Also what happens on the first trial? Do I need an attorney for the first trial? When can she drop the suit as a part of her agreement, we only were doing it to find out if I was the father. Help, the trial is on 03/24/2000.

Re: Mother Offered to Let Me Out of Financial Responsibility

Your responsibility to YOUR child began with its first breath. There is nothing that its mother can say or do to relieve you of YOUR responsibility to your child; unless a man should want to be a father to him and adopt.
