Can Opposing Counsel Demand Refund

My attorney told me to forget the medical and go get a refund, if I can to live on to avoid going on welfare pending the divorce. Once she read the doctor report she told me to go on welfare which was denied due to pending divorce with assets frozen 2.5 years.
