Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

i was ordered to pay child support last June. In december 2015 i was arrested and did not get out until this month. I have made no payments since child support was established because i do not have a job. I just received a contempt and a court date. If i tell the judge i have been in jail will they dismiss it or will i have to pay the purge amount that was on the paperwork?

Child support is not waived. I suggest you appear before the Judge - explain your situation and ask that you be allowed a minimal amount until you are able to obtain employment. It may work, it may not. Depends on the Judge. If you are not disabled there is no reason you are not working. There are plenty of day jobs - may not be what you want to do but it is a job.

You still owe the money but you will not likely go to jail for not paying. Get back on track and pay what you can prior to the hearing.
