Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
Paternity
After dating a girl briefly, having consensual sex which I was told was protected by the pill and then breaking up 3 months later- she calls me months later and says she is pregnant and wants to keep it but I don' t need to help her in any way. I expressed not wanting to have a child and that I would pay for an abortion but what rights do I have against her coming back later and deciding I have to pay? I have emails stating that she wants nothing from me but am I at all protected when she said she was on the pill and then says later on she got pregnant anyway?

Re: Paternity
If she goes to the Dept. of Revenue and asks for child support, you will be able to establish with DNA that you are or are not the father, although it does not seem like you doubt it anyway. Please remember that the child support is for the child so when she said she did not want anything from you she was telling the truth. The child wants the support.
Abstinence is the best assurance.
Re: Paternity
Doubt it. The pill is not perfect. A test is the only way you will know if you are the father and obligated to pay child support.
