Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Can permanent periodic alimony be taken away? If so,under what circmstances? I am in the same place I was in only my ex retired. I receive my share of the retirement via a QDRO,work and my ex stopped paying me my alimony when he retired. He remarried a few days after the divorce and now ministers at a church full time..What can help me keep what I EARNED???He is taking me to court for a supplemental petition to modify...Will the judge make him pay me what is owed or will he sweep it under the rug,and let my ex get away with owing me thousands of dollars...Just because he says he can't afford to pay me he still stopped paying me without a court order.I want my money, I believe the judge will let him get by with not paying me what is owed because he is ex law enforcement.I need encouragement from someone out there. :(

With all due respect, you don't need encouragement, you need a lawyer.

What substantial and involuntary change in circumstance does your ex claim would warrant terminating your alimony?

If you opt to proceed without the assistance of counsel, be aware that you will not be entitled to a do over if things go badly.

The above information is provided without any consideration/payment having been received, and without full knowledge of all of the facts.

An internet inquiry is no substitution for an in-office consultation with an attorney.

If your situation falls within the Greater Tampa Bay area (Hillsborough, Pinellas or Pasco Counties) , I would be happy to schedule you for a no obligation half hour office consultation.

Feel free to Google me.

Sincerely, Elliot Goldstein

I agree with Mr. Goldstein. Run to the nearest lawyer - don't let this man get away with not paying you. Since he owed you funds - when he retired he certainly has invested his share and so have the judge award that portion to you.
