Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Pet problem

Me and my wife (living separately now) bought a dog. Actually she did but for us. Then 5 months later or less we broke up and she didnt really take care of the dog. Maybe month or two after that. Now i have been taking care of this dog for 18 months cause she didnt want the dog and didnt care. Now 3 days ago she asked her dog back and will call cops on me if i dont give dog back. She has all the paperwork for dog and receipt when she bought her and now she only wants dog to sell her.

Is there anything i can too so i dont have to give my dog back to her cause i really like my dog? Do i even have to give my dog back and can police just take my dog from me?

Re: Pet problem

I seriously doubt the police will get involved. they just say it's a "civil matter" and tell you to handle your dog issue in divorce court, and they would be right. The law does not require you to give her property (the dog) which either of you has the right to.
