Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Can POA be used against me in future?

My husbands mom owns a home, but he lived in it for years, and it is in his name so he could file homestead exemption. Now she sold it and wants POA over him so she can get the money and go to the closing.I don't want this to come back to haunt him, should he ever end up in court- say, for a custody dispute. Could this hurt him in the future? I dont see why he cant just go sign the papers at closing and of course he'd give her the proceeds. I also don't want for us to end up owing taxes on it from capital gains??? Please help! THanks so much.
