Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Two Questions: Child Support and harrassment

My husband pays $3000/mo child support for 2 kids (15,17 yrs old) until age 21(he's been paying since 1996).The agreement says he has kids every Weds and every other weekend.Since we got married in March, the kids have stayed with us many extra nights, and come over almost every day after school-this has increased our expenses (ex moved 30 miles away, we live close to school),and we're sure the $3000 ex gets doesn't all go to the childrens' expenses. How can we reduce the amount my husband pays his ex-wife? Also, the ex-wife is very unstable and constantly slanders us to the kids and leaves nasty messages, sends nasty notes and emails, threatens us,etc. Can we do anything about her harrassment? Thank you very much for your help.

Re: Two Questions: Child Support and harrassment

Your husband should consider filing a Petition for Modification of Custody. He might also want to file a Petition for Modification of Child Support. A combined Petition may be filed. He will also need to file a financial affidavit and a child support guidelines work-up sheet. Basic forms can be located at the Florida Supreme Court's website (http://www.flcourts.org). However, it would probably be prudent to have an attorney handle the matter.

You should schedule a formal consultation with a lawyer. A good means of obtaining an attorney referral is by contacting your State's bar association or your local county bar association. They probably have a web site and charge a nominal fee for the referral. Most attorneys either provide a free initial consultation, or charge a nominal fee.
