Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
i recieved today a order from columbia county fl that i am to pay over $40,000 in arrearage of support that i was never made aware of until now..this is an enormous amount and they want $100 weekly and Im unemployed,have no cash or assets..what do i do?

First, you should review the Court file at the Clerk's Office (check if they have a website that you can access the pleadings in family law Court files or simpy call the Clerk's Office and ask if someone can go over the file with you). You should check to see if there was an affidavit filed stating that you were served with a Complaint/petition originally. If you weren't, than you have an argument there.
If that argument isn't vialble, you should file a Petition to Modify the Order/Final Judgment...alleging there are substantial changes in circumstances that need a modification of the child support payments. You may want to hire legal counsel. Good luck. Tom Rosenblum, Jacksonville
