seeking costudy of grandchild

my grandchild has lived with us since birth. she is 8 months old. My daughter is addicted to drugs and also lived with us until one day she left her with us, stating she could not take care of her right now and took off. The father has been in prison since she was 3 months old. My question is, we are planing to petition the court for costudy and wonder if fl court will grant it to us if either parent contest it, given the fact that nether one can take care of her.

grandparents dont typically have many rights, but courts will look to the best intrests of the child.
