It would appear that you and your husband have worked out the child support arrangement. Go to the court house - buy the package for divorce and put all your stuff in writing - get a hearing date - have your husband sign a consent and be done with it.

If there are not many issues (property distribution, spousal support etc.), many attorneys are willing to take a smaller retainer or even a flat fee.

Schedule a consultation with a local family law attorney who can discuss the issues in your case specifically and what if any have already been resolved. The attorney can then provide you with a representation quote or at the very least provide you with some direction on how to proceed pro se (without an attorney).

If you had a short-term marriage, and all issues have been amicably resolved, save your money and handle this on your own. If you don't trust your soon to be ex, then retain counsel. You should make sure your ex has disclosed all marital assets, and to calculate child support in accordance with the statutory formula.

In Florida, with family law cases, depending on the parties' comparative financial resources, the Courts have the discretion to hold one party responsible for all, or part, of the other's attorney fees and costs. In other words, if the other party has significantly stronger financial resources, while you will still have to pay the retainer, do not assume that you will not be able to afford to retain an attorney. Reimbursement can be sought.

If you opt to proceed without the assistance of counsel, be aware that you will not be entitled to a do over if things go badly.

The above information is provided without any consideration/payment having been received, and without full knowledge of all of the facts.

An internet inquiry is no substitution for an in-office consultation with an attorney.
