Separation

I don't want a divorce but a separation. Is this wise? My husband of 20 years left with all the money. He was the one who worked and I watch my granddaughter and havn't worked in years. I am 62 and receive $600 month/social security and my husband receives at least $3500.00 per month between SSI and Pensions. I want my half!! without being divorced. Is this possible? Who can help me with this? I just want what I deserve after 20 years of marriage.....
