Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Sibling visitation rights

My parents adopted my niece and she has been visiting me for one week in the summer since she was 16 months old. We are in the midst of a family problem and I am afraid that my parents will try to deny me my week visit this summer. If this happens, is there anything I can do legally to establish visitation rights? I am legally her sister by adoption and her aunt through relations. Her mother was my sister and she was killed when my niece was 1 years old. I treasure our time together and so does she. I think it will be emotionally harmful to both of us for this not to continue.

Re: Sibling visitation rights

A lot will depend on your age as well as the age of your sister/niece. Generally, you have very limited rights. For more info, see www.gsmithlawfirm.com .

It is unfortunate that your family is insensitive about the child's rights. But can you imagine the chaos in the court system if family disputes were subject to litigation? Try your clergyman or close family friend to intercede for you.
