Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Single Mom with sixteen year old daughter

I'm sixteen years old and my mom is a single mom. She has full custody over me and she is not close with any relatives. If she died before I was 18 would I have any say in where I went if she specifically specified that in her will. I am not close with my relatives and I do not know who my dad is. I have some friends that could and would take me in if my mom died. Would she have to specify in her will that I was to go with that family or would I be able to make the choice on my own?

Thanks!

Re: Single Mom with sixteen year old daughter

If your mother were to pass away, your father would immediately get custody. If he's not alive or otherwise can't care for you, the court will decide which relative you'd go to (or you'd go into the care of DCF).
