Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

My sister passed away almost 3 years ago and my 17 year old nephew is living with my husband and I as of the last 6 months. Prior to that he was living with his paternal Aunt. My nephews father has been in and out of prison his entire life so he doesn't have any relationship with his son. While my sister was still alive she signed a temporary order of guardianship for his paternal Aunt to take care of him. The Aunt has decided she doesn't want him anymore and I've always had a very close relationship with my nephew. The only reason he didn't come live with us from the start is because we lived in Colorado. We just moved back to Florida 6 months ago and my nephew has been with us since. Everyone is on board with me having him including him. My question is what is the easiest, quickest and cheapest way to get permanent guardianship or custody of my nephew ?

if he will turn 18 soon, I suspect that it may not be necessary. Sounds like there has not been a legal guardian for a few years and that a few more months would not be a problem. Why do you need one?
