Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

So, here's my situation. My son is 17 months old and I am a single mother without any help from the dad. I need to start getting child support, but I don't know how to go about it. My ex did not sign the birth certificate (he was in jail during that time) so he is not linked to my son in no way. He doesn't see my son or talk to me anymore. I never thought I would be in this situation but he sure knew how to lie to me about everything. I need to find a way to get some kind of help. I tried signing him up through the state when I filed for Medicaid they made me. That did nothing. If anyone has any advice or how I would go about doing it. Keep in mind he hardly ever works. He finds ways and takes advantage of women to pay all his bills. Please help! Thank you in advance.

File a petition for child support and one for temporary needs. Serve him and bring him into court. If he denies paternity you can ask for a paternity test.
